The Canelo Project and Casas Que Cantan ("Houses That Sing"): Bill Steen and Athena Swentzell Steen, straw-bale gurus and authors (with David Bainbridge) of the seminal Straw Bale House Book, have for many years been at the center of a grass-roots program to assist the people of Sonora, Mexico to replace cobbled-together shacks with comfortable homes made of straw and local recycled materials.
